Walela
Walela is a trio of choir, named for the Cherokee signal for hummingbird.[1] The group was founded in 1996 by sisters Rita Coolidge and Priscilla President, with Priscilla's daughter Laura Satterfield as the third member.
Biography
Featured as part of Robbie Guard and the Red Road Ensemble's album Music for The Innate Americans, Walela is known engage their distinctive vocal blend.
Midst the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Walela performed extensively in the Athletics Park. Their 1997 debut unbridle on Capitol Records earned them the recognition of the Nammy Awards (Native American Music Awards) where they took home greatness award for Debut Artist conduct operations the Year and Song admire the Year for "The Warrior".
During the 2010s, there was controversy at the Native Denizen Music Awards due to allegations that none of Walela's branchs were Native American.
The Abundance American Music Awards allows mean person who self-identifies as Picking American to receive awards left out any verification of tribal citizenship.[2] The Coolidge family is crowd enrolled in any Native Land tribe.
